Aurinether: A web-based dystopian Ttrpg

 The Aurinether is an enormous series of undersea metal piping, where the majority of humanity has been relocated by the year 2200. The wealthy above ground society uses the labor resources of the Aurinether to enjoy a bountiful existence, while those living in the tubes fight over the remaining scraps of energy, food, and technology. Corporations oversee the population of over 25 billion beings in the Aurinether, some aligned with the government and some with their own agendas. 

Oftentimes Corporations compete by violent or manipulative means for resources, employees, and territory. Life in the Aurinether can be fraught with danger: from opportunistic degenerates, bloodthirsty corporate enforcers, murderous Ravenous thralls, violent and cunning mutant races, or even the danger of having your section of the Aurinether depressurized and ejected into the deep sea. 

Design your own character and find your place in this massive, lore-rich undersea world! The Aurinether is home to all kinds: humans, AI, cyborgs, robots, mutants, and even mutant AI. The web-based rulebook makes it easy for players and Game Masters to navigate the system and auto populate traits to your character sheet. Aurinether has enough content for a long campaign, and enough story for a highly focused one-shot. 

The rulebooks are about 85% complete, and soon I'll begin building the website and testing the game. I'm also hoping to record gameplay demos and hire an artist to adapt the AI art I've made. The timeline as of now is release in March 2025, but the game needs support to make that happen. The best way to support the game is through the Kickstarter, running now through November 3rd. Aurintether is a Dystopian Science Fiction TTRPG: you create a unique character to interact with the Game Master’s story. 

To build a character, you first choose or combine up to two of 12 Backgrounds. Backgrounds are integral aspects of your characters history such as Mutant, Corporate, Cyborg, Nepotism, and more. Each background provides unique buffs and skills. 

Then you choose from nine career paths separated into three types: Enforcement (which includes the Assassin, Berzerker, and Samurai), Support (which includes the BioEngineer, Hacker, and Medic), and Specialty (which includes the Agent, Monk, and Passionate). Each career path provides a new bonus for every level. 

Finally, based on your Background and Career, pick a corporation you are eligible to join. Corporations determine your lifestyle, starting equipment, and overall social standing in the Aurinether. There are 20 unique corporations with their own alignment, enemy types, locations, and corporate stats.

The game includes many original mechanics such as:

• The Weapons Mastery System, where potential weapon damage scales alongside your success with the weapon.
• Background Concealment, a mechanic to hide your background from others while forgoing its benefits.
• Milestone Based Leveling, grow your characters based on their success in Combat, Diplomacy, and their Career instead of tallying XP.
• Lifestyle levels that dictate your character's passive income and health insurance.
• Faction stats for each overall corporation.
